ABSTRACT

GunungCiremai National Park (GCNP) is one of the conservation areas that has been facing forest land coverchanges due to uncontrolled activities of people around the area. They have been  practicing shifting cultivation system for horticulture that can lead to forestdegradation in GCNP area. The aim of this research was to analyzesocio-economic factors that influence expansion in GCNP. Data on sosio-economic were taken in GCNP for one month in August 2010. Collected attributed data including socio-economic conditions, knowledge and attitude of people. The results of image processing were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using the attribute data to determine its impact on land cover changes. Socio-economic factors that influenced expansion of land cultivation into the park areas were rate of income in outside area, knowledge especially on cover function and attitude of people to the existing forest. To anticipate expansion of land cultivation into the forest area, the national park should create alternative beneficial projects in order to improve people income outside national park zone, rehabilitation of zone of national park and supervise the activities to people about national park.

TAMAN NASIONAL WASUR, MENGELOLA KAWASAN KONSERVASI

DI WILAYAH MASYARAKAT ADAT

Nandi Kosmaryandi

Abstract

Indonesia has established 50 national parks as part of its protectedarea. Considerations ofthe establishment of national parks by the government were based on the conditions of native ecosystems and biodiversity conservation targets. Consideration was also as sociated with the development of recommendations made in the IUCN’s World Park Congresses. It is a fact that some national parks were occupying some indigenous lands, such as Wasur National Park which occupied indigenous territories of Kanum, Marind-Kondo, Marori Men-gey and Yeinan Ethnics. These indigenous peoples have established natural resource management systems that were intimately associated with their traditions and beliefs. Discrepancy between government policies on conservation are as with the pattern of arrangement on indigenous peoples as owners of the area led to the emergence of conflict and marginalization of indigenous peoples’ rights. Realizing the error in the perspective of conservation area management related to indigenous peoples, in the 5th World Park Congress in Durban, South Africa in 200, a recommendation  was agreed on the importance of collaboration in the equality and mutual benefit between parks’ managers with indigenous peoples, and positioning indigenous peoples’ rightsasan important part in conservation area management system today and the future.

BIOTA PERAIRAN DI AREA PERTAMBANGAN EMAS PT. NATARANG MINING, LAMPUNG SELATAN

ABSTRACT

Dependence of the diversity of aquatic biota with water quality is typical of interaction and mutual influence. Various development activities in a watershed is now being polluted waters. Gold mining activities as open-pit mining activities have a high potential for pollution, especially water turbidity due to sediment erosion at the site of drilling / excavation of land and other open land. Problem of pollution control efforts, particularly in the area of Natarang Mining L.td should do well because in these areas flows Samuong River and its tributaries, which still has a high diversity of aquatic biota. The trend increase in water turbidity, especially seen in the rainy season in Semuong River and its tributaries which in the long term could reduce the density and diversity of aquatic biota, whether plankton, benthos and fish.

RestiMeilani, HariniMuntasib, SoeryoAdiwibowo

ABSTRACT

Research and information on teachers’ perception of environment and environmental education (EE) in Indonesian context were insufficient.  Therefore, this research aimed at identifying teachers’ perception of environment and EE, as well as the influencing factors.  Results showed that: (1) Teachers from forest margin areas had limited environmental perception; (2) Most of them had positive perception on EE implementation; however they viewed their competence and self-efficacy as being low.  (3) Differences in EE perception among teachers were influenced by their educational background, non formal education, level of teaching difficulties from the grade they taught, and organizational experiences.
