Abstract

Structure of roadside vegetation was assumed to have effects in reducing lead concentration in the ambient air.  One of the structure factors was number of rows.  The objectives of the research were: (a) to determine the effects of different number of plant rows in reducing lead concentration; (b) to determine the decreasing pattern of Pb particle concentration in the ambient air surrounding the roadside vegetation. Air sample to analyze the concentration of Pb particles in the ambient air was collected on 4 collection point: point emission (roadside), 5 m, 15 m and 30 m behind the roadside vegetation; air samples was also collected from an openspace plot. The results showed that differences of tree row number affected the decrease of Pb particle concentration; the more the number of tree rows, the greater the decrease of Pb particle concentration. Two plant rows of roadside vegetation had same capability with more two plant rows of roadside vegetation in reducing Pb particle concentration.  There was a trend that the increasing distance of the roadside would decrease the level of Pb concentration.

ABSTRACT

The Wan Abdul Rahman Provincial Park (Tahura Wan Abdul Rahman) is a well-known destination for many recreation and ecotourism activities amongst student in Lampung Province, but up to now the general function of the park is not reached yet. Therefore, an evaluation of ecotourism resources in the park have been held to find out the resources potential clearly, as well as to find it problems in management. The research shows that the water-fall, natural scenic and many floras and faunas in the park are very potential to suplly many recreation and ecotourism activities for a wide range of visitors; both for daily and week end recreation activities and for vacancies season. The Amorphophalus sp.is the most uniqueness flora in this area and also world widely well known, while  the BurungRangkong (Bucerotidae) is the most uniqueness fauna here. Further, the youth camp in this area is the most favorable focal point visited by the visitors.

ABSTRACT

Development of forests into oil palm plantations have much impact, both directly and indirectly, on the environment within and surrounding the plantation.  Wildlife is one of the environmental component affected by oil palm plantation development.  The remaining forested areas inside the plantation area had the potential for wildlife encounter.  Based on field observations during the course of the study, 64 species were found in the area, which comprised of 43 species of birds, 7 species of mammals and 8 species of reptiles and amphibians.  Further analyses showed that the area had 7 species of mammals, 12 species of birds and 4 species of reptiles and amphibians which included in the category of rare/protected species.   Poaching, habitat destruction, indefinite land status, and the decline of feed quality were serious threat to the existence of wildlife in the area.

PREDIKSI EROSI DAN SEDIMENTASI DI SUB DAERAH ALIRAN SUNGAI KEDUANG KABUPATEN WONOGIRI

ABSTRACT

Land resources management at Keduang Sub-Watershed will be influence of environment quality, physic (erosion, sedimentation, debit of Keduang River), chemistry (water quality) and socio economic aspect. This research aim to know the level of erosion and sedimentation that happened in Keduang Sub-Watershed, Wonogiri Regency. Research method which is used is descriptive. Data types which are obtained are secondary data from Centre of Research and Development Technology of Watershed Management, Forestry Department, BPS-Statistic of Wonogiri Regency and Agriculture Department of Wonogiri Regency. Method of  analysis’s data which is used in this research is Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) Method to predict the soil erosion. Results of this research are: the level of erosion in Keduang Sub-Watershed is 44 ton/ha/year or 1,9 million ton/year. The sediment yield from Keduang Sub-Watershed to Wonogiri Basin equal 164.000 ton/year.

PENDUGAAN PERUBAHAN CADANGAN KARBON DI TAMBLING WILDLIFE NATURE CONSERVATION TAMAN NASIONAL BUKIT BARISAN SELATAN

Abstract

Global warming effect can be mitigated in two ways, namely carbon loss reduction or emission and increasing carbon storage within vegetation. Forest can absorb CO2 trough photosynthesis process and sink them in biomass. Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation (TWNC) as a part of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP) have been facing land cover change due to encroachment. The study aimed to measure carbon stocks in various land cover and to compare carbon stocks for the whole are of TWNC TNBBS in 2000-2009. Carbon stocks measurement was conducted in TWNC TNBBS during August 8th to October 8th 2009, 50 plots were sampled including nature forest, secondary forest, agroforestry, shrub, Imperatacylindrica , and grassland by purposive sampling method. Soil carbon was not measured in this study. Nature forest has the highest carbon stocks by 178,44 MgC.ha-1, and grassland be a poorest carbon stocks (1,47 MgC.ha-1). During the time between 2000 to 2009,  primary forest carbon stock  decrease in amount of 457,792.52 Mg  along with the decrease in land cover of this forest type. As many as 24.4% of natural forests in 2000 turned into the others type of land use such as a secondary forest of  21.63%, for shrubs 1.61% and  0.06% for agroforestry in 2009. Totally, TWNC TNBBS has loss its carbon stocks as many as 279422 Mg, it’s mean the annual average carbon stocks contained in the TWNC TNBBS area decreased by around 27,942.2 Mg (0.72%) per year. Its mean, 1,024,547 Mg CO2 or 102,454.7 Mg CO­2 every year was lose from TWNC TNBBS area.

NUTRITIONAL ANALYSIS OF ANOA (Bubalusdepressicornis and Bubalusquarlesi) FOOD PLANTS IN TANJUNG PEROPA WILDLIFE RESERVE, SOUTHEAST SULAWESI

Sebanyak 46 jenistumbuhandanduajenisbuahdikumpulkandari habitat aslianoa (insitu) di SuakaMargasatwaTanjungPeropa Sulawesi Tenggara.Analisiskandungannutrisimakanananoadiketahuidenganmenggunakanmetode Proximate Analyses.Hasilpenelitianmenunjukkanbahwapersentasekandungannutrisimakanananoa di habitat aslinyabervariasi.Kandungan protein bervariasi 5,58 -21,60 (rataan 12,70; SD 4,34), sementarakandunganseratkasarbervariasidari 14,68 sampai 62,68 (rataan 36,93; SD 12,07).  PersentaseEktrak Ether adalah  0,91-11,5 (rataan  2,38; SD 1,75).  Persentasekandungan NFE (Nitrogen-Free Extractives) berkisar 0,76dan  52,31 (rataan 24,64; SD 15,20),  dankandunganenergikasaradalah 2419-3583 kal/gram (rataan  3093; SD 282,82).
